Considering the increasing competition in the global trade markets, a question arises as to whether developing countries should allocate a dedicated capital investment towards education or improving industrial skills. While providing the necessary infrastructure to improve industrial skills can establish an efficient production chain, and a lucrative environment for foreign investment, I would argue that countries should prioritize education for the sake of improving conditions in quality of life, and rendering a work environment where creativity adds value to the market.

On one hand, improving the vocational skills of the workforce can be regarded as crucial to the industries of developing nations that must compete with other nations in work efficiency and operational expenditures. Institutionalized training opportunities may spur the development of a workforce with special skill sets that help diversify the economy of a developing nation. In turn, a diversified macroeconomic portfolio elevates the stability of a country from fluctuations in the market economy. For example, Vietnam was able to garner an attractive working population through industrial training partnerships with foreign companies, which led to the rise of domestic companies and a healthy economy with local and foreign competition. As a result, a wealthier government can provide improved infrastructure for the people whose quality of life can only improve.

On the other hand, I believe promoting education would lead to an autonomous economy that can diverge from being a stickler for foreign investments, and an economy that can spur its own supply and demand. The first reason is that since education provides the knowledge set for people to seek opportunities, the overall economy would provide a broader angle towards creating business opportunities rather than relying on the government or other large private institutions. For instance, educated individuals can build startup companies that typically have less restraint for creativity than larger companies. The second benefit of improving the educational system is that it nurtures individuals who have the capacity to improve on their own skills. Many countries around the world have demonstrated a fall in crime rates through the improvement of education.

In conclusion, I think developing countries should concentrate on enhancing their educational systems rather than improving the industrial skills of their workers because if they are to seek long-term growth over short-term development.
